Nite Golf Doubles #7 - Mar 5th, 2008

As the final disc golf sign was being installed in DeBary's River City Nature Park, I got a call from a player new to the area named Henry who had just gone around Turkey Lake's Original course and was inquiring about Wednesday Night Flights later that evening. I gave him the skinny and he stuck around. As luck would have it, we were teamed up. "Ten" was the magic number of players on this fine spring evening with the temps hanging just below 70.
What looks to be the beginning of a tradition was the pairing of "El Presidente", James LeBaube, and "That guy who owns that cool 'Sparky' dog, Johnny McMillan. Both are avid members of the Sidearm Army and the Backhand Battalion, which gives them a distinct advantage over most teams.
As Daylight Savings Time approaches the sun shone down well into our round. Starting out on hole #10 Daryl S and Bennett P posted a solid -9/46. Meanwhile, on the other card, the bi-spinual team of James and Johnny tallied up an impressive -11/44, which was strong enough to win it…on MOST nights.
However, the surprise of the evening turned out to be a southpaw by the name of Henry (Remember him? It was only 3 paragraphs ago) HH's strong lefty backhand combined with the ancient arm of da "Hos" was enough to edge out Jmac & Jbaube by one with a glowing -12/43.
At the "payout window" Henry, (currently undefeated at WNFs) opted to donate a portion of his booty to the ODGC. Ever diligent club treasurer, Daryl, reminded him that only a few $$ more would make him an active member. And so it came to pass as we welcome our newest ODGC member, Henry Hernandez.

NEXT WEEK be prepared for WednesDAY/NIGHT Flights as we play our first evening in Daylight Savings Time!! We expect that most of the round will be well lit but will likely finish in the dark. Please be prepared to start at 6:15pm in order to reduce the number of holes we play in the dark. Once again, we hope you'll join us at Orlando's premier disc golf facility for some Twilight Flights!!

GLOW UP!!!

Nite Golf Doubles #6 - Feb 27th, 2008
The days are beginning to get longer but somebody forgot to tell them to get warmer. Less clouds in the Orlando sky meant cooler temps and less reflected lights from the myriad sources of illumination emanating from "The City Beautiful". For the 2nd week in a row, the magic attendance number was 8, allowing two groups of FORE to go off on the 1st and 10th tees.
Starting on #10 James "El Capitan" LeBaube and Bill "Burrrrr" Burbage warmed up the early part of the back nine by hitting 3 in a row but chilled with the night air finishing -4 and -2 on their respective nines for a -6/49 total.
Gregg "Ha" Hosfeld and Steve "The Brick" Hall started slow with a -3 on the back but rallied by starting the front 9 with a "Turkey" (deucing #s 1,2, & 3) and finishing the front with -5 and an -8/47 total.
In Florida it is not at all uncommon to shoot scores lower than the temperature…but NOT when it's 46 degrees!! The night belonged to Mark "ODGAH" Janssen and Dave "Lefty" Peyton whose -5 on the front and matching -5 on the back (-10/45 total) took the spoils.

Nite Golf Doubles #5 - Feb 20th, 2008
The Orlando Disc Golf Club's 5th running of WNF was held under another glorious full moon, which created some stellar vistas of Turkey Lake.

A few short hours before the full lunar eclipse, which was followed by a "blood-moon", 6 of the usual suspects returned to get their fill of night flights. The ODGC also welcomed Johnny Mac back to the pack, as well as newcomer, Evan, bringing us to an even two foursomes.

The team of J-Mac & J-Baube were "armed" with dually effective sidearm and backhand deliveries, which provided the tools needed to shoot a solidly consistent -11/43.

Less consistent were the team of D-Sid and G-Ho who missed only two birdies on the back 9, including a 2 on the par 4 (sort of) #18, followed by 4 straight pars on the front, then 4 straight birdies, and the final putt chaining out to end up tied at -11/43. Both teams were sans bogeys and split the purse.

Jayson Jobe got metal on #11, falling just short of WNF's $21 ace fund.
We would like to invite everyone out to enjoy an evening under the stars for some fun disc golf action and also to help us raise funds for the Orlando Open disc golf tourney in October. Glowsticks are 2-for-$1 and continue to be a great way to raise funds for the club's efforts.

March 9th marks the beginning of Daylight Savings Time. We plan to continue to run the Wednesday Night Flights along similar time-lines as regular day-time doubles play.

Nite Golf Doubles #4 - Feb 13th, 2008

Nite Golf Doubles #3 - Feb 6th, 2008

Nite Golf Doubles #2 - Jan 30th, 2008

Nite Golf Doubles #1 - Jan 23rd, 2008
With cloudy skies, bright from the ambient light of Universal Studios and other nearby attractions, an even dozen disc golfers gathered at Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake on Wednesday, Jan 23rd to launch the first of many Wednesday Night Flights- random draw disc golf doubles. Eventually the full moon peeked over the horizon, making glow sticks almost unnecessary on this perfect 68 degree evening.

Bill Burbage and Gregg Hosfeld took only 90 minutes to complete the round with a strong –10. ODGC Treasurer Daryl Siddon and “JJ” Brennan were down only 1 stroke per 9 to finish 2 back with a solid –8. And Chicago-land visitor Bart “Channel Z” Zandstra teamed up with first timer Chris ??? to eak out the last money spot at –5.

Someone suggested an Ace Fund and thus begins a separate ace fund for Wednesday Night Flights which now sits at $5.00 going into week #2.
